Altaviator: from a hand sketch to production

A site for an independent drone pilot: aerial photos, roof measurement and facade capture. We did all of it, from the first pencil line of the logo to the server it runs on.

The task

A pilot who works alone needs a site that looks like a serious company, explains three quite technical services to home owners and architects, and brings requests in writing, not phone calls at dinner.

What we did

  • Logo from a hand sketch, turned into a vector mark, wordmark and favicon set.
  • Design system: palette, type, tokens and 29 components, each with a preview and its rules.
  • Mockups for every page on desktop and phone, then the pages themselves.
  • Scenes that show each service: a radar, a roof being measured, a facade being scanned, played once as the page scrolls.
  • Texts in English and German, with an Impressum and a privacy policy.

How it is built

Static PHP pages with shared parts, no database and no CMS, because it does not need one. CSS from the design system, plain JavaScript, GSAP for the scenes. Everything is stored with the site: no fonts, scripts or images from other hosts.1

The contact form has no captcha. A few invisible checks do the work instead: a signed single-use token, a small proof of work in the browser, a honeypot field and a rate limit that never stores an IP address.

How it runs

Development on a preview server with Docker, production on CentOS 9 with nginx and php-fpm. Releases go out with one command from a tagged version, and the form has its own tests on both servers.

Result

Live since October 2026, in test mode: requests are already accepted, and replies start in February 2027.2

The whole road, from a pencil sketch to a release script, is the road we offer every client.

1 It loads fast for the same reason a well-packed suitcase closes: nothing in it that is not needed.

2 Drones, like gardeners, prefer spring.
